Baseball Splits Doubleheader at Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University baseball program took the series but fell in the series finale of day two at Pioneer Park to in-state rival Tusculum on Saturday afternoon.

Game 1 – Lincoln Memorial 10, Tusculum 5

The Pioneers took an early lead in the first on a sacrifice fly but the Railsplitter bats stayed quiet through the fifth as Tusculum held a 5-0 lead after four innings of play.

The fifth inning was all Blue and Gray as the Lincoln Memorial offense bolted for four runs to cut the Pioneer lead to one. Ryan Kurth got things going for LMU to begin the fifth with a double down the right field line before scoring later while Andrew Keene was at the plate. The Railsplitters went onto further cut into Tusculum's lead later on a Cameron Bowen single through the left side to bring in two.

Both offense went quiet till the seventh when Lincoln Memorial saw their first lead of the game after Cameron Powser cranked a home run down the left field line to score three to give LMU a 7-5 lead.

The Railsplitters went onto extend their lead in the ninth to 10-5, and they held the lead until the final out to secure the series win over Tusculum.

Game 2 – Tusculum 3, Lincoln Memorial 0 (7 Inn.)

The Pioneers got on the board early and often in the first and was dominant from the mound as they were able to hold off the Railsplitter offense in game two. Lincoln Memorial neared the scoreboard in the first, but the Tusculum defense was able to get out of the inning.

Tusculum was able to hold onto their 3-0 lead for much of the defensive dominant series finale as the Pioneers were able to secure the win over LMU in game two.
