Baseball Routs Yellow Jackets in West Virginia

INSTITUTE, W. Va. – The Lincoln Memorial University baseball program broke out the bats in the commanding midweek win over West Virginia State, 12-0, on Wednesday afternoon, moving to 22-15 on the season.
 
The Railsplitters and Yellow Jackets combined for just one hit over the first and second innings before the 'Splitters were able to break the 0-0 score on a Cameron Powser solo home run to left field before Cameron Bowen was able to lay down the RBI single to give LMU a 2-0 lead after three.
 
Lincoln Memorial threatened again in the fourth, but West Virginia State was able to get out of the jam to bring their offense up to bat. Coming on the for Railsplitters in the fourth, Ethan Bobo was able to get the first two batters out, one fly out and a strikeout, before giving up a walk. With a runner on, the Yellow Jackets were able to get into scoring position, but Lincoln Memorial was able to get out of the jam, tracking down the fly ball in right center.
 
A pitching change by West Virginia State gave the Yellow Jackets a fresh arm, but that did not bother the Railsplitters as they were able to get on early before a Carson Boles two-run RBI double to left center allowed Bowen and Chris Hall to tag home, extending the LMU lead to 4-0.
 
Lincoln Memorial went onto further their lead twice more in the frame. Ryan Kurth connected on a double to left center before a pitching change by West Virginia State. LMU was able to take advantage quickly with Sam Mast being hit by the pitch before a Kasten Harvey single was able to make it 6-0 LMU.
 
A quiet sixth inning led to a productive seventh for the Railsplitters, getting out to an 8-0 lead behind an RBI single from Andrew Keene that allowed Mast and Kurth to tag home.
 
Making subsitutions all-around, the Yellow Jackets saw the Railsplitter lead increase to 12-0 in the eighth. Walker Hennon came into pinch hit for Kurth and was able to lay down the RBI single to make it 9-0. Brandon Parrott then stepped in for Mast and took the fifth pitch of the at-bat long as Parrott made it 12-0 on a three-run blast, and ultimately solidifying the midweek win for Lincoln Memorial.
 
Making his first collegiate appearance, Matthew Wrinkle tossed 2.0 scoreless innings of working, striking out one in the win. Ryan Kurth paced LMU at the plate, finishing the afternoon 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

The Railsplitters will welcome the Cobras of Coker to Lamar Hennon Field for the home series finale and Senior Day. The three-game series is scheduled to begin on Friday, April 15 and concluded with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 16. Senior Day festivities are slated to begin on field prior to the doubleheader on Saturday.
