Baseball Storms Back to Defeat Coker

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University baseball found themselves down early, but mounted a comeback lead by Patrick Queener on the mound to take the series opener from Coker, 10-5, on Friday night.

The Cobras got their offense rolling early, jumping out to a 3-0 lead after the first as they were able to capitalize on some Railsplitter errors. The Railsplitters were able to cut into the Cobra lead with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame as Chris Hall tallied the first LMU run.

A sound top of the second inning from Queener and the Blue and Gray defense saw the game quickly shift to the bottom of the second. Lincoln Memorial was able to get runners on and in scoring position, but Coker was able to make the stops defensively to get out of the jam.

Queener tossed another gem in the third, getting the fly out and strikeout before tracking down the picking off the runner at first. The Railsplitters offense went to work in the third as Hall was walked to open the inning before an RBI single from Cameron Bowen allowed Hall to stretch home. Lincoln Memorial was then able to even things up at 3-all on a sacrifice fly from Ryan Kurth, scoring Bowen.

A quick fourth inning by both pitchers brought us to the fifth. The Cobras went onto get two runners on, both in scoring position, but Queener was able to punch out the last two batters of the inning.

Lincoln Memorial then was able to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth as Carson Boles doubled to give the Splitters runners in scoring position before a Sam Mast single to left field brought in Boles and Bowen to make it 5-3 LMU.

The Cobras responded in the sixth, evening the contest back up at 5-all as Kimmel was able to lay down the RBI single before a wild pitch allowed Griffor to tag in from third.

It did not take long for Lincoln Memorial to be back on top as Andrew Keene took the first pitch over the left field wall for his 10th home run of the season. Tucker Hagan was able to lay down the single, but Coker was able to tighten on defense and get out of the inning.

Lincoln Memorial was able to hold the Cobras scoreless over the home stretch as the Blue and Gray offense went to work as they tallied four runs over the final two innings to capture the 10-5 victory over Coker to open the series.

David Brian Ellison picked up his fourth win on the season as he tossed 2.1 innings of relief work. Queener picked up five strikeouts on the night in 5.2 innings of work. Bowen paced the Railsplitter offense with a 2-for-3 night and scored three runs while batting one in.
