Baseball Sweeps Away Senior Day over Coker

HARROGATE, Tenn. – In front of a packed Lamar Hennon Field, the Lincoln Memorial University baseball program moved into fourth in the SAC standings after getting the sweep over Coker on Senior Day.

Game 1 – Lincoln Memorial 5, Coker 3

The Railsplitters got the offense going early as going up 1-0 after two innings. Bryce Woody got the starting nod on the mound and after giving up a hit in the first at-bat, he was able to calm down to get the Splitters out of the jam.

Coker was able to even things up at 1-all in the third on an RBI single from Castillo, but Woody and the Blue and Gray defense were able to snag back-to-back flyouts to end the inning.

The Cobras were able to capitalize on Railsplitter errors in the fifth to take the lead, 3-1, but the Railsplitters were able to force the out at second to get out of the jam.

Going into the sixth, Bryce Woody and the defense were able to force the Cobras into a one, two, three innings. Ryan Kurth stepped up to for the first at-bat in the bottom of the sixth and did not take long as he took the pitch over the left center field wall to bring the 'Splitters to within one. Just moments later, Lincoln Memorial forced Coker into a pitching change, but a sacrifice fly from Collin Goda allowed Kasten Harvey to score to even things up at 3-all.

The score stayed tied till the Railsplitters were able to reclaim the lead in the eighth on a RBI double from Andrew Keene, bringing in Harvey. Lincoln Memorial went onto extend their lead to 5-3 on a sacrifice fly from Chris Hall, bringing in Keene.

Beau Nichols came in for relief for Ryan Franklin and was able to punch out two before the Blue and Gray defense was able to track down the fly out to give the Railsplitters a 5-3 win in game two of the series.

Game Two – Lincoln Memorial 4, Coker 3

A pitching dual in the first saw just one combined hit before moving into an action-packed second inning.

Coker was able to lay down the bats in the second as they got two runners on and in scoring position, but Brewer was able to strikeout the side to give the Blue and Gray offense another turn.

Like game one of the afternoon, Kurth saw limited pitches before taking an identically path for a solo home run over the left field wall to put LMU up 1-0. Harvey was able to get on first after a throwing error by the Cobra second baseman before moving to second on a wild pitch.

The Railsplitters continued their offensive output in the second as Tucker Hagan was able to tally a run after getting on first after a throwing error by the Cobra pitcher, bring the Lincoln Memorial lead to 3-0.

Coker responded swiftly as they were able to get their bats going in the third. Getting runners in scoring position early, the Cobras were then able to take advantage of a Railsplitter error before evening the contest up at 3-all going into the bottom of the third.

Ryan Kurth was the Railsplitter of the Day as he was able to account for an RBI double to left field to put Lincoln Memorial back on top, 4-3, going into the fourth inning.

A pitching battle ensued as Ethan Bobo came in for Alex Brewer in the fourth and was able keep the Cobra bats quiet through the fifth and sixth before Mason Turner came in to close out game three to give the Railsplitters the Senior Day sweep over Coker, 4-3.
