No. 15 Softball Struggle at Anderson

ANDERSON, S.C. – The No. 15-ranked Lincoln Memorial University softball program (32-10, 15-5 SAC) traveled to the South Atlantic Conference leaders for a top-20 nationally-ranked matchup, and were swept by the No. 20 Lady Trojans for the first time this season.

The Lady Railsplitters were shut out on the scoreboard for just the second and third time this season through 42 games played, last going scoreless against Lander (Feb. 25).

No. 20 Anderson remain in control of the South Atlantic Conference standings, boasting a 16-2 league record. LMU fell behind Lenoir-Rhyne to third, as the Lady Bears maintain the higher winning-percentage with a 14-4 conference record.

Game 1 – No. 15 Lincoln Memorial fall to No. 20 Anderson 3-0.

Anderson ace Laken Maxwell nearly hurled a seven-inning no-hitter, sitting down 21 of 23 total Lincoln Memorial batters in game one.

The Lady Railsplitters posed a threat in the top-half of the third, as outfielder Madison Henry recorded the only LMU hit of the day, followed by Bella Buccellato reaching base after being hit by a pitch. The 18-game winner in Maxwell responded and closed out the inning, in addition to four perfect following frames for the victory.

Junior Emma Frost held her own, completing all six innings, striking out seven and only allowing three runs. The LMU ace moved to 18-4 on the season.

Game 2 – No. 15 Lincoln Memorial fall to No. 20 Anderson 4-0.

Game two was much of the same, as the red-hot Lady Trojans kept the LMU bats in-check for the first sweep of the year on the Lady Railsplitters.

Madison Henry stayed hot, as the left fielder impressively went 2-3 in game two against Lady Trojan pitching. LMU recorded five total hits in the latter-half of the doubleheader, with Kelsie Tuggle once and McKenzie Henry twice recording base knocks.

Graduate Delilah Malczewski fell to 5-3 on the year, allowing four runs, to go along with two strikeouts and three walks.

The No. 15 Lady Railsplitter softball program will celebrate Senior Day prior to first pitch against Limestone, to recognize the collegiate careers of Emma Webb, Sami West, Victoria Mounce, Bella Buccellato, Grace Cochran, Bailey Griffith and Delilah Malczewski.
