HARROGATE, Tenn. – The No. 15-ranked Lincoln Memorial University softball program (32-12, 15-7 SAC) celebrated senior day inside the Dorothy Neely Softball Complex Saturday afternoon, honoring the careers of seven special Lady Railsplitters.
Families, friends, coaches, players and fans gathered to honor the accomplishments and recognize the collegiate careers of
Emma Webb,
Sami West,
Victoria Mounce,
Bella Buccellato,
Grace Cochran,
Bailey Griffith and
Delilah Malczewski, as the seven played their final regular season matchup inside the friendly confines of Dorothy Neely.
LMU's recent struggles continued on the field Saturday afternoon, with the Lady Saints of Limestone taking both victories, successfully slowing the Lady Railsplitter offense.
Two individual and team achievements were set Saturday, first with junior ace
Emma Frost tying the single-season program-record strikeout mark of 189 in game one, with six regular season matchups left to play.
The second mark of the day was reached by the LMU defense in game two, as the Lady Railsplitters achieved for just the third-time in program-history the joint-record of three double-plays turned. The last LMU defense to achieve this feat on three separate occasions in a single contest dated back to 2015.
The sweep of LMU moved the Lady Railsplitters down to the fourth spot in the South Atlantic Conference standings behind Wingate, Lenoir-Rhyne and league leaders, Anderson. The Blue & Grey has one final SAC series next weekend on the road at Wingate.
Game 1 – No. 15 Lincoln Memorial fall to Limestone 3-2.
The longest contest of the 2022 campaign thus far saw LMU fall in the game one's 10th inning, marking Saturday as the first extra innings affair inside Dorothy Neely this season. A pitchers' duel through the opening four frames between Frost and Limestone's White saw game one head to the fifth inning scoreless, just before the Saints recorded a run in consecutive innings.
LMU evened the score just as the Saints gained momentum, thanks to consecutive doubles from power hitters,
Sierra Hucklebee and
Emma Webb. The graduate first baseman from Knoxville, Webb, entered Saturday with 154-career RBI, just seven shy of the all-time program-record. The RBI machine now sits at 155 total with six regular season matchups and post season action left to play.
Tense ensuing innings saw LMU and Limestone battle it out until the tenth frame, where the Saints finally took the one-run advantage with an RBI base knock to right-center.
Emma Frost moved to 18-5 after going the distance of 10 innings pitched, only allowing one earned with six strikeouts on the day.
Game 2 – No. 15 Lincoln Memorial fall to Limestone 6-1.
Limestone pitching stayed hot in game two keep the Lady Railsplitter bats in-check, as a lone
Sierra Hucklebee RBI in the fifth was the only run LMU managed in the latter-half of the doubleheader.
Two graduating LMU pitchers,
Delilah Malczewski and
Bailey Griffith threw in the circle Saturday, as Malczewski started game two and now has an overall record of 5-4 on the season. The graduate transfer got into trouble early out of the gates, but managed to pitch through five frames, recording three strikeouts. Griffith threw the final two innings of play, only allowing three total hits.
The No. 15-ranked side in the country will play their final six contests of the 2022 regular season on the road, with series against Alabama-Huntsville, Wingate and North Georgia. The annual South Atlantic Conference Tournament is scheduled to take place in two-week's-time inside the Dorothy Neely Softball Complex, beginning Friday, April 29.
