Huntsville, Ala. – The Lincoln Memorial University softball program (32-14, 15-7 SAC) took a pause from South Atlantic Conference action Thursday afternoon in a road trip to face the Lady Chargers of the University of Alabama in Huntsville, falling in two tightly-contested matchups.
Junior
Emma Frost broke a Lincoln Memorial softball program-record in the first inning of the day, as the ace of the pitching staff entered Thursday tied for the most single-season strikeouts at 189. The Morristown product hit the 190-mark with two regular season doubleheaders, the conference tournament and regional post season action remaining.
Thanks to a split between Lenoir-Rhyne and Wingate midweek, LMU moved level into third-place with the Lady Bulldogs in the South Atlantic Conference standings. Saturday's conference finale in Wingate will have massive implications in the final standings and seeding for the annual SAC tournament, this year hosted inside the friendly confines of Dorothy Neely.
Head coach
Ritchie Richardson's side were ranked as the No. 5 team in Wednesday's first NCAA Southeast Region poll, as Anderson and Lenoir-Rhyne sit as the top two, followed by North Georgia and King at No. 3 and No. 4. LMU has recorded wins in splits with King and Lenoir-Rhyne this season, with an upcoming series in Dahlonega, Ga. with North Georgia to close out the 2022 regular season next Tuesday.
Game 1 – Lincoln Memorial fall to UAH 6-5.
Following setting the record-breaking single-season strikeout-mark of 190, junior
Emma Frost carried a shutout into the game's fifth inning, before a late UAH rally changed the fortune for the Lady Chargers.
Consecutive homers in the fifth and sixth inning gave UAH the advantage, as the Lady Chargers sealed the victory in the opening game of the series Thursday afternoon. Frost pitched all six innings, striking out six as the junior moved to 18-6 on the year.
Outfielder
Madison Henry continued her form at the plate as of late, as the junior batted in four RBI in game one. Henry notched consecutive doubles in the second and the fourth, batting 2-3.
Game 2 – Lincoln Memorial fall to UAH 7-6.
Game two was a back-and-forth battle with multiple lead changes, as the Lady Chargers of UAH ultimately prevailed again, sweeping LMU with a seventh-inning walk-off single.
Sophomore
Victoria Conley made her second appearance in the circle this season for the Lady Railsplitters with four innings pitched, recording two strikeouts. Graduate
Delilah Malczewski ended up as the losing pitcher in game two following the UAH walk-off, as the lefty pitched the final two-and-a-third innings of the contest. Malczewski moved to 5-5 on the year.
The LMU bats did plate six in game two, off a two-run shot from catcher
McKenzie Henry and additional RBI from graduate
Emma Webb, sophomore
Katie Tuggle and freshman
