Softball Earn Four-Seed Following Final SAC Regular Season Matchup At Wingate

WINGATE, N.C. – The Lincoln Memorial University softball program (32-16, 15-9 SAC) concluded their 2022 South Atlantic Conference regular season schedule, falling in consecutive matchups Saturday afternoon in North Carolina to the Lady Bulldogs of Wingate.

With the loss, Ritchie Richardson's Lady Railsplitters will finish fourth in the league standings, earning the No. 4 seed in next weekend's conference tournament hosted in Harrogate. LMU will take on Queens University in the quarterfinal matchup next Friday, April 29.

LMU and Queens both finished 15-9 in SAC play, but with the sweep over the Royals on March 26, the Blue & Grey earned the honors to the higher seed.

Game 1 – Lincoln Memorial fall to Wingate 9-0.

The Lady Bulldogs scored twice in the first inning of game one and Wingate never looked back, run-ruling LMU through five innings of play. The Lady Railsplitters were able to record just three hits with the dominant pitching display of Sydney Kale. McKenzie Henry and Sierra Hucklebee were among the Lady Railsplitters to reach base via a base-knock.

Junior Emma Frost moved to 18-7 on the season, only recording four earned-runs of the nine total scored for Wingate. Frost picked up four more strikeouts on the year with four innings pitched.

Game 2 – Lincoln Memorial fall to Wingate 7-1.

The Wingate bats in game two stayed hot, scoring all seven runs on senior Hayley Tamaro, as the New Jersey native moved to 8-2 on the season. Kassidy Miller came on late in relief for her fourth appearance of the season, holding the Lady Bulldogs off the scoreboard for the remainder of the contest.

The lone LMU run of the series came off a Sierra Hucklebee blast to left-center. The senior is the first Lady Railsplitter this season to hit the double-digit mark in home runs.
