No. 18 Softball Outscore Coker 34-3 in Dominant Sweep

Lady Railsplitters remain atop SAC following first program sweep over Coker

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The No. 18-ranked Lincoln Memorial University softball program (31-7, 14-2 SAC) swept the Lady Cobras of Coker University Saturday afternoon inside Dorothy Neely Field for the first time in program-history.

Two demolition blowouts, outscoring Coker 34-3 saw the Lady Railsplitters win their 12th-consecutive matchup, matching the longest single-season win streak in the Ritchie Richardson era. Both contests were decided as five-inning run-rule victories, with the Blue & Grey recording runs in all eight innings batted against Lady Cobra pitching.

Junior Emma Frost (17-3) and senior Hayley Tamaro (8-0) both collected victories in ease Saturday afternoon, in addition to center-fielder Madison Henry driving in six RBI in game No. 1, one shy of the single-game program record.

With Lenoir-Rhyne and Anderson also completing sweeps Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action, LMU face two massive tests in their next two conference series, taking on the Lady Bears and Trojans. The Lady Railsplitters maintain the spot at the summit of the league having two games-in hand on Anderson and one in-hand on Lenoir-Rhyne.

Game 1 – No. 18 Lincoln Memorial defeat Coker 18-2.

The Lady Railsplitters exploited Coker pitching from the get-go Saturday afternoon, notching a six-run first, five-run second, four-run third and a three-run fourth.

Outfielder Madison Henry was the star of the show in game one, batting a perfect 3-3, with six runs driven in safely. The center fielder terrorized Lady Cobra pitching, singling in the first, doubling in the second and tripling down the right field line in the third.

Sierra Hucklebee, Katy Pozzuto, Katie Tuggle and Maddie Haskins all drove in multiple RBI in game one additionally. Pozzuto came on as a late game substitution, homering in the bottom-of-the -fourth for her first blast of the campaign, and surprisingly the only home run of a series that saw 37 total runs scored.

Junior Emma Frost solidified her place as the SAC-wins leader Saturday, moving to 17-3 on the season. The coaching staff took it easy on the dominant righty's arm, as Frost appeared in four innings, striking out six and allowing zero runs for the victory. Bailey Griffith appeared in the circle for the final inning of the contest, sealing the 30th victory of the season for the Lady Railsplitters.

Game 2 – No. 18 Lincoln Memorial defeat Coker 16-1.

No. 18 Lincoln Memorial left zero doubt on the afternoon, throttling Coker out of the gates in game two, scoring five in the bottom-of-the-first. Lady Cobra pitching failed to get their act together in the long road trip to Harrogate, allowing four of the five runs scored in the first off wild pitches.

Emma Webb and Katie Tuggle again were the big producers on the offensive end, driving in six RBI between the pair.

Senior Hayley Tamaro continued her perfect-record campaign, improving to 8-0 in four innings pitched against the Lady Cobras. Tamaro struck out three while allowing only one run on the afternoon. Ritchie Richardson and his staff remained determined to give their starters arm's rest ahead of two crucial series on the horizon, as graduate Delilah Malczewski closed out the series in the top-of-the-fifth to put the Lady Cobras out of their misery.
