HICKORY, N.C. – The No. 12-ranked Lincoln Memorial University softball program (32-8, 15-3 SAC) faced an opponent near the top of the South Atlantic Conference standings Saturday on the road in North Carolina, as the Lady Railsplitters split a series with the Lady Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne.
An
Emma Webb two-run single in game one's top-of-the-seventh propelled LMU to victory and pushed Webb all-the-more closer to the program's RBI record, while junior
Emma Frost collected her 18th win of the 2022 campaign.
The victory in game one stretched Lincoln Memorial's win streak out to 13 in-a-row, officially setting the mark for the longest single-season win streak of the
Ritchie Richardson era.
The Lady Railsplitters streak ultimately came to an end in game two, as LMU fell to the two-spot in the SAC standings behind Anderson, with the Lady Trojans posting the higher win-percentage with two less games played.
Game 1 – No. 12 Lincoln Memorial defeat Lenoir-Rhyne 6-2.
A pitchers' duel in game one saw the No. 12 Lady Railsplitters head to the final inning of play trailing Lenoir-Rhyne 2-1, but
Shelby Blake and
Madison Henry quickly reached base, setting the stage for RBI machine, first baseman
Emma Webb. The graduate singled into left field, regaining the early lead for the Blue & Grey, driving in Blake and Henry.
Grace Cochran reached base in the following at-bat, as catcher
McKenzie Henry pushed the Lady Railsplitters out to a comfortable four-run lead with a towering three-run opposite-field blast.
Emma Frost closed out the bottom half of the inning, sealing her eighteenth win of the season. The dominant righty ace struck out seven, only allowed two runs with zero walks in the first matchup in North Carolina.
Game 2 – No. 12 Lincoln Memorial fall to Lenoir-Rhyne 13-3.
The Lady Railsplitters could never cool down Lenoir-Rhyne in Game two Saturday afternoon, as the Lady Bears posted the first run-rule victory on the season over LMU.
Hayley Tamaro's perfect record finally came to an end Saturday, as the senior now sits at 8-1 overall. Graduate
Delilah Malczewski also saw action in the latter half of the doubleheader.
Three Lady Railsplitters did collect RBI in the final three innings of the day, with
Kelsey Hoskins and
Shelby Blake driving in runs. Shortstop
Sierra Hucklebee smacked her ninth homer of the season in the games' 5th inning.
