CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Lincoln Memorial University men's volleyball will see their quest for their fourth straight IVA Tournament title as they were able to overcome a slow start to get the sweeping win over Limestone, 3-0, in the IVA semifinals.
Both programs battled back and forth to begin the first set before the Railsplitters saw the lead at 8-6. The Saints quickly recovered and even the score up, but Lincoln Memorial was able to tame the Limestone offense as the Blue and Gray offense went to work, putting LMU up 19-13. The Saints were able to attempt a comeback, coming within one point of the lead, but the Railsplitters were able to get the final kill to take set one, 25-23.
The second set got out to another physical start as the score saw an 8-all tie just moments in, but Lincoln Memorial was then able to race to the lead, taking a commanding 17-10 lead. The Saints were able to find their grove later on in the set, but it was not enough as the Railsplitters were able to send it home, taking the second set 25-19.
The Railsplitters jumped out to an early 6-3 lead, but Limestone was able to even the score up. The Saints took their first lead of the match, going up 15-13, over Lincoln Memorial, but the Railsplitters rattled off four straight points to reclaim the lead. Trading points up until match point, Lincoln Memorial was able to get the block from
Matthew Gentry and
Johansen Negron to take the third set and match, 25-22.
