Box Score HICKORY, N.C. – One of the best seasons in LMU women's lacrosse history came to a close this afternoon in the South Atlantic Conference semi-finals to top-seeded Queens 25-4.
Queens opened up the game on a 5-0 run to take an early lead, but
Ali Van Der Ziel ended the run with a goal with four and a half minutes left in the first period to cut into the lead.
Jaedyn Ryba opened the scoring in the second quarter, as she put one past the keeper to make it 5-2. Queens answered back with nine straight goals to end the half and go into the break up 14-2.
The Royals put two goals on the board early in the third quarter, but Ryba responded with her second goal of the game to cut it back down. Queens however, kept attacking, scoring four more goals to end the quarter and led 20-3 after 45 minutes of play.
Ali Van Der Ziel opened the fourth quarter with her second goal of the game. Queens scored the final five goals of the game to clinch a spot in the championship game on Sunday.
Ali Van Der Ziel and
Jaedyn Ryba both scored twice for the Lady Railsplitters to lead the offense.
Sage Leax,
Rudi Lyles,
Melanie Cascio,
Lina Martinez, and
Delaney Duck all fielded multiple groundballs.
Samantha Billingsley got seven draw controls in the circle.
Tonight marked the last career game for
Melanie Cascio,
Michaela Clark,
Lina Martinez, and
Sydnee Saksa, putting to end an outstanding four year career for the outstanding players.
"I'm proud of the season my team had this year. It's not the way we wanted to finish it, but it doesn't take away from all of the amazing things we accomplished," commented head coach
Alyssa Shaver. "I'm already missing the seniors and I'm already getting excited for next year."
