Baseball Falls on the Road to Mountain Lions

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Lincoln Memorial University baseball program fell in midweek, non-conference action at Young Harris, 9-4, on Wednesday afternoon.

The Railsplitters struggled early to connect as the Mountains Lions pitcher forced LMU into a three up, three down situation to start the first. Brennan Murphy was able to mark the same start for Lincoln Memorial as the Harrogate, Tennessee native punched out all three Young Harris batters to send the contest to the second.

Lincoln Memorial was able to get a little offensive pressure going as Ryan Kurth was able to reach first on a throwing error by the Mountain Lion shortstop before Kasten Harvey was able to lay down the single up the middle to get two runners on for LMU, but Young Harris' defense was able to buckle down and get out of top of the frame.

The Mountain Lions exploded in the second to take a 7-0 lead over LMU after two home runs and an RBI walk.

The Railsplitters were able to get a runner on in the third, but Young Harris was able to overcome the Splitter offense before extending their lead on RBI double down the left field line from Spell. A pitching change by both programs in the fourth saw a scoreless inning for the teams as they headed to the fifth.

Andrew Keene got the ball rolling in the fifth with a lead-off home run before the Railsplitters were able to load the bases with Chris Hall up at the plate. Hall was able to draw the walk, getting the RBI in the process, giving LMU a run to make it 8-2. The Railsplitters were able to further cut into the lead behind a sacrifice fly from Cameron Bowen to make it 8-3 Young Harris.

Going scoreless over the homestretch, Young Harris was able to tally one more in the eighth on a home run down the left line by Worley to give the Mountain Lions a 9-4 lead before Ryan Franklin was able to get Lincoln Memorial out of the inning.

The Railsplitters made one last push with Collin Goda being able to reach due to an error by the Mountain Lion third baseman before Hall was able to lay down the RBI triple to right center with Goda tagging home, but it did not matter as Young Harris was able to track down the fly ball to end the contest, 9-4.
