HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial women's volleyball team swept conference foe Emory & Henry in three sets (25-21, 25-21, 27-25) on Friday night at Mary Mars Gym. The Railsplitters (4-8, 2-2 South Atlantic Conference) used a balanced offensive attack to take down the Wasps (1-10, 1-4 SAC) and bring their conference record back to .500.
Set 1: Lincoln Memorial 25-21
After the Railsplitters had steadily built a 13-9 lead midway through the set, Emory & Henry stormed back with a 5-0 run to take the lead. A later 3-0 run would give the Wasps an 18-15 edge late, but Lincoln Memorial, thanks to a pair of kills from Keturah Margaret and one each from
Makayla Fox and
Sierrah Lemons, took 10 of the last 13 points to clinch the set. Margaret's six kills led the Railsplitter offense in the opening frame, while
MJ Trujillo's eight digs paced the defense.
Set 2: Lincoln Memorial 25-21
A 6-0 Lincoln Memorial run, highlighted by kills from Lemons and
Maggie Sanderson, gave the hosts a 12-5 advantage midway through the second set. The Railsplitters extended the lead to as much as nine at 18-9 and would hold at least a 3-point edge over the Wasps for the remainder of the set. Lemons' four kills and Margaret's two solo blocks contributed to Lincoln Memorial taking the frame.
Set 3: Lincoln Memorial 27-25
In a back-and-forth period featuring 11 ties and three lead changes, the Wasps got out to an early 9-5 lead. A later 3-0 Railsplitter spurt, including an ace by
Kaley Long and a kill from Margaret, tied the score at 11-all. Lemons and Margaret kills soon after sparked a 5-0 run to give Lincoln Memorial a 16-14 lead. The Railsplitters would be tied or leading by two or less the rest of the way, clinching the set on an Emory & Henry attack error.
