Sanderson's Big Game Not Enough for Women's Volleyball against Maryville

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Lincoln Memorial women's volleyball team fell in three sets (25-16, 25-12, 25-18) to Maryville on Friday afternoon in its second game of the Kentucky Wesleyan Tournament. The Railsplitters (1-5) will play two on Saturday to wrap up the tournament.

Set 1: Maryville 25-18
After falling behind early, the Railsplitters fought back to tie the score at 6-all thanks to two kills by Abigail Kesler and one from Maggie Sanderson. Later 5-0 and 6-0 spurts for the Saints provided separation for them, as they led by as many as 10 points in cruising to the first set win. Sanderson's four kills paced the Lincoln Memorial offense in the opening frame.

Set 2: Maryville 25-16
The Saints went on an early 11-1 run to increase their advantage to 13-3 and pull away for the set win. Lincoln Memorial cut the deficit to five twice, including once after back-to-back kills from Sanderson to make the score 15-10, but would get no closer the rest of the way. Sanderson again led the Railsplitter attack, this time with five kills in the second set.

Set 3: Maryville 25-20
An ace from Sanderson was part of a 5-0 run to put the Railsplitters ahead 5-1 early in the set. Soon after, the Saints stormed back with a 10-0 scoring spree to lead 13-7, holding Lincoln Memorial down the rest of the way. A total of six Railsplitters recorded a kill in the final frame.
