HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial women's soccer team led early after scoring in the first minute, but Tusculum came back to take a 2-1 decision on Wednesday afternoon at the LMU Lacrosse Complex.
The Railsplitters (1-8, 0-5 South Atlantic Conference) got a goal 20 seconds into the match from
Ryan Branson to take the lead. Branson bended a shot in from the left side off a fast break to put Lincoln Memorial on the board.
The Pioneers (5-3-1, 1-3-1 SAC) responded with two goals about six minutes apart, the first coming from Sydney Grant in the 22
nd minute and the second by Taylor Youmans in the 28
th minute.
Lincoln Memorial's offense generated plenty of more opportunities for a goal the rest of the way, tallying 21 shots and putting nine of those on goal combined during the match. Tusculum shot 10 times with seven being on target. The Railsplitters earned six corner kicks in the second half (seven overall) but came up with no goals out of those chances.
Branson and
Anne Van de Munt led the Lincoln Memorial attack with two shots on goal each, while goalkeeper
Bente Latenstein collected five saves on the day.
