Harrogate, Tenn. —- The Lincoln Memorial women's volleyball team played #16 Wingate this afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action. The Lady Railsplitters played hard but came out on the losing end, 3-1 (25-22, 17-25, 15-25, 23-25).

THE MATCH
FIRST SET
- The teams played evenly through most of the set, as neither team gained more than a two-point advantage until the end when LMU scored four out of the last five points to get the win.
- Kristen Moehring served strong at the end of the set getting two aces before a service error. But it was enough to push LMU for the win.
-LMU hit .379 with 13 kills.
SECOND SET
- Wingate got off to a fast, 4-0, start in the second set. LMU came back to tie the set at 7-7, but WU answered with three points and never looked back.
- The Bulldogs took 8 out of the next 9 points to take a 16-9 lead with a few service aces: then pushed to a 9-point lead at 21-12.
- Wingate coasted to an 8-point win on a kill by #15, Emily Johnson.
- The Bulldogs had 13 kills to LMU's 10 and WU had 10 aces to LMU's 1.
THIRD SET
- LMU started the third set keeping close to Wingate: never getting behind by more than two until the 15-12 mark when Wingate started pulling away.
- LMU got as close as 15-20 when Wingate scored the next five point to take the win.
- Wingate hit .517 in the set with 16 kills. The Bulldogs tallied 17 digs to LMU's 10.
FOURTH SET
- The fourth set was another close battle with neither team able to pull ahead by more than two points.
- At the 18-17 mark, Wingate made its move. A mishandled set and a hitting error by LMU gave WU a three-point lead, 21-17. Moehring had a kill to answer but Wingate came back trading points to edge out LMU, 25-23, to end the match.
- LMU had 14 kills compared to Wingate's 11, but had a lower hitting percentage, .276 to .171.
LOOKING AHEAD
LMU is home at Mary Mars Gymnasium on Tuesday, October 10, for a SAC match against UVA-Wise at 7pm.
