Harrogate, TN – Lincoln Memorial's Women's Basketball started South Atlantic Conference play this season by defeating Newberry this afternoon by a score of 81-63.
LMU was down early, 4-8, in the first quarter but went on a 12-0 run and never looked back.
Lauren Flowers ended the first quarter scoring with a 3-pointer with 40 seconds to go. LMU led 21-10.
Zyan Smith started the second quarter scoring with a layup at the 9-minute mark. After a couple Newberry free-throws, Smith made another layup followed by a Flowers 3-pointer to push the lead to 16, 28-12 with 7:42 to go in the half. The Wolves tried to comeback with a 3-pointer, but a couple of free throws and a fastbreak layup by Rios and a
Jordan Maney free throw pushed the lead to 17.
Jordan Maney hit a short jumper to push the LMU lead to 19. Many ended the half with a 3-pointer with seven seconds to go. 40-24 LMU.
Flowers, Maney, and
Chloe Savage opened the third quarter with baskets to extend the LMU lead to 22. Newberry would stay with LMU until the end of the third quarter when Maney and Savage would help push the lead to 29. Newberry would not give up scoring the last four points of the half to cut the lead to 25. LMU 63-38.
Newberry would start the fourth quarter strong cutting the lead to 16 before Rios dropped in two free-throws. Maney and
Alexa Smiddy would score getting the lead back to 21. LMU would get the lead to 23 late in the fourth, but the Wolves would score the last five points of the game to end it, 81-63.
Jordan Maney would lead all scorers with 26 (57.8% FG's) with
Lauren Flowers getting 21 (46.7% FG's). Geo Rios would lead in rebounds with nine and
Chloe Savage would get seven. Rios, also, would give out six assists and score 15.
LMU will travel to Wingate next Sunday for a 2pm conference game.
