BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial softball team dropped a pair of close games to King in Wednesday's doubleheader at King's Softball Field.
The No. 15 Railsplitters (11-3) fell 5-4 in the first game and 5-3 in the second game of the twinbill to snap a 4-game winning streak.
Game 1: King 5, Lincoln Memorial 4
The host Tornado got on the board first with 3 runs in the Bottom of the 2
nd inning, but
McKenzie Henry's RBI double followed by
Katie Tuggle and
Victoria Conley scoring on wild pitches tied the score at 3-3 after the Top of the 6
th.
King score 2 more runs in its half of the 6
th frame to regain the lead.
Sierra Hucklebee smoked a solo homer to left field to get the Railsplitters to within 5-4, but the Tornado put the clamps on after that to take the opener against their in-state rival.
King's Marleigh Duncan earned the win to improve to 1-0 on the season, while
Emma Frost was hit with her first loss of the year after allowing 5 runs on 9 hits in 6.0 innings of work.
Game 2: King 5, Lincoln Memorial 3
King again went ahead by multiple runs early, scoring twice in the Bottom of the 1
st. The Railsplitters responded with single runs in the 2
nd, 3
rd and 4
th innings, highlighted by a
Katy Pozzuto solo shot in the 2
nd, to take a 3-2 lead.
The Tornado scored 3 in their half of the 4
th to account for the final scoring of the day and earn the sweep.
King's Madison Walter improved to 1-2 on the season with the win, while Lincoln Memorial's
Hayley Tamaro (4-2) took the loss after surrendering 5 runs on 7 hits in 6.0 innings in the circle.
