@LMU_Softball Takes Care of Lions on Day One at Bearcat/Fleet Invite

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Lincoln Memorial softball team beat Concord and Emmanuel to sweep both games of the first day at the Bearcat/Fleet Invitational.

The No. 15 Railsplitters (13-3) got past the Mountain Lions 10-8 on the campus of Erskine before run-ruling the Emmanuel Lions 12-1 in 5 innings at Lander.

Game 1: Lincoln Memorial 10, Concord 8

Concord got on the board first with 2 runs in the Top of the 3rd inning, but Lincoln Memorial roared back with 5 runs of their own in the bottom half, highlighted by Madison Henry's 2 RBI double that scored McKenzie Henry and Sterre den Duijn.

A Kelsie Tuggle 2-run homerun in the 4th put the Railsplitters ahead 7-2, and RBI singles by Gracie Palmer and McKenzie Henry in the 5th extended Lincoln Memorial's lead to 10-3. The Mountain Lions put 5 runs on the board in the 7th inning, but Hayley Tamaro came in with runners on 1st and 2nd and 2 outs to secure the save, her first of the season.

Victoria Conley went 6.2 innings in the circle for the Railsplitters to improve to 2-0 for the year, while Concord's Nancy-Jo Roberts (1-2) took the loss. Tuggle and Madison Henry posted 3 hits and 2 RBI each to pace the Lincoln Memorial offense.

Game 2: Lincoln Memorial 12, Emmanuel 1 (5 innings)

Lincoln Memorial scored the first 11 runs of the game (2 in the 1st, 5 in the 2nd, and 4 in the 3rd) on their way to a convincing win over the Lions.

Katie Tuggle got the Railsplitters going with an opening-inning 2-run homer to left center. Katy Pozzuto and den Duijn's 2 RBI hits highlighted the scoring in the 2nd frame before Katie Tuggle's grand slam to left field created even more separation in the 3rd inning.

Emma Frost threw a complete game while allowing only 3 hits and striking out 4 to improve her record to 6-1 in the pitchers circle. Katie Tuggle went for 2 hits, 3 runs scored and 6 RBI.
