GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Lincoln Memorial softball team beat Concord and Emmanuel to sweep both games of the first day at the Bearcat/Fleet Invitational.
The No. 15 Railsplitters (13-3) got past the Mountain Lions 10-8 on the campus of Erskine before run-ruling the Emmanuel Lions 12-1 in 5 innings at Lander.
Game 1: Lincoln Memorial 10, Concord 8
Concord got on the board first with 2 runs in the Top of the 3
rd inning, but Lincoln Memorial roared back with 5 runs of their own in the bottom half, highlighted by
Madison Henry's 2 RBI double that scored
McKenzie Henry and
Sterre den Duijn.

Kelsie Tuggle 2-run homerun in the 4
th put the Railsplitters ahead 7-2, and RBI singles by
Gracie Palmer and
McKenzie Henry in the 5
th extended Lincoln Memorial's lead to 10-3. The Mountain Lions put 5 runs on the board in the 7
th inning, but
Hayley Tamaro came in with runners on 1
st and 2
nd and 2 outs to secure the save, her first of the season.
Victoria Conley went 6.2 innings in the circle for the Railsplitters to improve to 2-0 for the year, while Concord's Nancy-Jo Roberts (1-2) took the loss. Tuggle and
Madison Henry posted 3 hits and 2 RBI each to pace the Lincoln Memorial offense.
Game 2: Lincoln Memorial 12, Emmanuel 1 (5 innings)
Lincoln Memorial scored the first 11 runs of the game (2 in the 1
st, 5 in the 2
nd, and 4 in the 3
rd) on their way to a convincing win over the Lions.
Katie Tuggle got the Railsplitters going with an opening-inning 2-run homer to left center.
Katy Pozzuto and den Duijn's 2 RBI hits highlighted the scoring in the 2
nd frame before
Katie Tuggle's grand slam to left field created even more separation in the 3
rd inning.
Emma Frost threw a complete game while allowing only 3 hits and striking out 4 to improve her record to 6-1 in the pitchers circle.
Katie Tuggle went for 2 hits, 3 runs scored and 6 RBI.
