Extra-Inning Win over Lander Highlights Day 2 of Bearcat/Fleet Invite for @LMU_Softball

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Lincoln Memorial softball team split two games on Saturday at the Bearcat/Fleet Invitational to finish the invite 3-1.

The No. 15 Railsplitters (14-4) defeated Lander 3-2 in 8 innings after falling to Erskine 5-4 in the first game of the day.

Game 1: Erskine 5, Lincoln Memorial 4

Knotted at 2-2 entering the 5th inning, the visiting Railsplitters put a pair of runs on the board thanks to solo homeruns from Sterre den Duijn and Madison Henry to gain a 4-2 edge.

The Flying Fleet responded right back with a trio of runs of their own in the bottom half in what proved to be the final scoring of the game.

Both den Duijn and Henry led Lincoln Memorial with 2 hits and 2 RBI each in the day's first game. Erskine's Kaley Ingle improved to 5-0 with the win, while Hayley Tamaro took the loss for the Railsplitters.

Game 2: Lincoln Memorial 3, Lander 2 (8 innings)

The host Bearcats got on the board first with 2 runs in the opening frame, but that is all they would score off of starter Emma Frost, who improved to 7-1 after tossing 8.0 innings and striking out 6.

Lincoln Memorial responded right back with a pair of runs in the Top of the 2nd inning on a den Duijn homer followed by an RBI single from Anna Kate Reichter to tie the score at 2-2. There would be no more scoring until the 8th inning, when Katie Tuggle plated Sierra Hucklebee with a sacrifice fly for the go-ahead tally.

Frost worked out of a bases loaded jam with no outs in the Bottom of the 8th by forcing a double play lineout before ending the game on a flyout to right field. Lander's Taylor Scott dropped to 2-3 in the circle with the loss.
