NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial baseball team won both ends of a doubleheader over Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday at Jackson Field to improve to 10-0 this season.
The Railsplitters rallied back from a 4-run deficit in the 9
th inning on their way to a 7-5 victory in 11 innings in the first game before claiming an 8-4 decision in the nightcap of the twinbill.
Game 1: Lincoln Memorial 7, Trevecca Nazarene 5 (11 innings)
Trailing 5-1 entering the 9
th, the visiting Railsplitters scored 4 times with 2 outs, capped off by a
Carson Boles 2-run homer, to knot the score up and force extra innings.
Jared Hancock hit an RBI triple before
Collin Goda posted a run-scoring single to set up Boles' blast.
Boles came up big again in the Top of the 11
th, hitting a go-ahead sacrifice fly to score
Tyler Boyd.
Andrew Keene, who had a homerun in the 6
th, later hit an RBI single for an insurance run.
David Brian Ellison pitched 2 shutout innings allowing only 1 hit and striking out 3 to earn the win. The Trojans' Tyler Sills was hit with the loss after allowing the winning runs.
Game 2: Lincoln Memorial 8, Trevecca Nazarene 4 (7 innings)
The Railsplitters carried the momentum over from the first game to score 6 of the first 7 runs of Game 2 on their way to another win.
Ryan Kurth produced 2 RBI on a single to highlight a 3-run 3
rd inning for Lincoln Memorial before
Cameron Bowen nailed a 2-run homer in the 4
th to extend the visitors' advantage to 5-1.
Walker Hennon and
Kasten Harvey produced RBI singles in the 7
th inning for insurance runs.
Starting pitcher
Eli Edds struck out 5 in 5.0 innings to earn the victory and improve to 2-0 on the season, while Trevecca Nazarene's Caleb Marks took the loss (0-1).
