DUE WEST, S.C. – The Lincoln Memorial baseball team led 5-1 early but fell 9-6 at Erskine on Tuesday afternoon to snap a season-opening 10-game winning streak.
The Railsplitters (10-1) scored twice in the 1
st and 2
nd innings and tacked on single runs in the 3
rd and 5
th, but the host Flying Fleet (9-3) scored the final 7 runs of the contest to pull away for the victory.
Andrew Keene hit a 2-run homer in the Top of the 1
st inning to get the scoring started, while
Jared Hancock mashed an RBI double and
Walker Hennon plated
Cameron Bowen with a sac fly to add another pair of runs to the board in the 2
nd.
Gavin Whitehurst knocked in a run with a groundout in the 3
rd, and
Kasten Harvey hit an RBI double in the 5
th to account for the rest of the Lincoln Memorial scoring.
Cooper Guest was awarded the win after 2.2 innings of 1-run ball in relief for Erskine, while Lincoln Memorial's
Matthew Delph, who allowed 2 runs and 4 hits in 1.1 innings, took the loss.
Offensively, Keene pounded out 3 hits for 2 RBI and scored 3 runs, while Harvey also collected a trio of hits for the Railsplitters.
