@LMUbaseball Wins Two to Sweep Cedarville in Opening Series

HARROGATE, Tenn.- LMU Baseball continued the momentum from its home opener win against Cedarville University on Friday to their doubleheader with the Yellow Jackets on Saturday.

In the first of the two games, the Yellow Jackets would strike first, taking a 1-0 lead after the 1st inning. The Splitters would tie it up in the bottom of the 2nd inning followed by a scoreless 3rd inning. LMU took the lead in the bottom of the 4th thanks to a Cameron Bowen RBI single. A Cedarville error followed by an RBI single from Gavin Whitehurst would add to the lead making it 5-1 after 5.

Runs batted in from Whitehurst and Cameron Boles along with a few stolen bases would propel the lead to 9-1 going into the top of the 9th inning. Cedarville would rally to score 4 runs in the frame, but the deficit was too great to overcome. The Splitters would head to the bullpen twice in the win and combine for 12 strikeouts, led by Eli Edds with 8 in the 9-5 LMU victory.

In the second game of the doubleheader, LMU would be the one to strike first with an RBI double by Kasten Harvey to score Carson Boles in the bottom of the 1st. Boles would continue his contribution later on in the 3rd inning where he would single to knock in 2 more runs, adding to the Splitter lead. A sacrifice fly by Bowen would round out the inning, extending the lead to 4-1. Tyler Boyd's RBI single in the bottom of the 5th inning would round out the Splitters' scoring for the weekend. The second game lasted only 7 innings, with a final score of 5-1.

LMU moves to 3-0 on the season and will travel to Cleveland, Tenn. next to take on Lee University this Wednesday, February 8th at 3 PM.
