CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial baseball team outslugged Lee 10-7 on Wednesday in its first road game of the season.
The Railsplitters (4-0) were down 3-0 after 3 innings but scored twice in the 4
th and 4 times each in the 5
th and 7
th innings to pull away from the Flames (1-3).
Colin Murphy got his first win of the season on the mound while
David Brian Ellison picked up his first save.
Kasten Harvey plated the first run for Lincoln Memorial with an RBI fielder's choice that scored
Carson Boles in the top of the 4
th.
Gavin Whitehurst subsequently hit a sacrifice fly to bring in
Andrew Keene and get the Railsplitters within a run at 3-2.
Lincoln Memorial would again face a 3-run deficit after 2 more runs by the Flames in their half of the 4
th, but a
Collin Goda triple and
Carson Boles sac fly followed by a two-run homerun from Harvey put the visitors ahead 6-5.
A single run in the bottom of the 6
th tied it up at 6-all, but the Railsplitters responded with a 4-run 7
th highlighted by a 3-run blast by
Ryan Kurth that proved to be the game-winning knock.
The Railsplitters scored their 10 runs on 11 hits, while Lee had their 7 runs on 12 hits. Harvey and Keene tied for the game-high with 3 RBI each, and Keene, Kurth,
Cameron Bowen and
Jared Hancock rapped out two hits each. Murphy struck out 5 in 5 innings of 2-run ball to pick up the victory in relief.
Lincoln Memorial will host Lander in a 3-game series beginning Saturday at 1 p.m.
