@LMU_Softball Drops Doubleheader at Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Newberry softball team put away Lincoln Memorial early in both games of a doubleheader on Saturday in South Carolina to sweep the twinbill.

The Railsplitters (19-12, 5-3 South Atlantic Conference) allowed 11 runs in the first 2 innings of Game 1 before allowing another 11 runs in the first 3 innings of Game 2 to the Wolves (16-11, 4-4 SAC), who improved to 4-0 at home in SAC play on the year.

Game 1: Newberry 15, Lincoln Memorial 5 (5 innings)

After the Lady Railsplitters got on the board in the Top of the 1st inning with a McKenzie Henry single that led to Katie Tuggle scoring, the Wolves crossed the plate 5 times in the bottom half before plating 6 runs in the 2nd inning for a comfortable 11-1 advantage.

Lincoln Memorial got a 2-RBI single from Gracie Palmer in the 4th inning and RBI singles by Katy Pozzuto and Kelsie Tuggle in the 5th inning, but that wasn't enough to combat the offensive onslaught from Newberry. Emma Frost (11-5) was hit with the loss after allowing 7 runs in 1.1 innings, while Newberry's Lindsey Foster (6-4) claimed the win thanks to 4.0 innings of 3-run ball.

Game 2: Newberry 11, Lincoln Memorial 3 (5 innings)

The Wolves' offense came out of the gates hot once more, this time scoring 3 runs in the 1st inning followed by 4 runs each in the 2nd and 3rd innings to build an 11-0 edge.

Sterre den Duijn hit a 3-run homerun to center field in the 5th for Lincoln Memorial's only offense. Newberry's Olivia Chestnut (3-2) threw a complete game for the win, while Hayley Tamaro (6-6) registered the loss after allowing 7 runs in 1.1 innings.
