ANDERSON, S.C. – The Lincoln Memorial baseball team was swept in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Anderson's Memorial Stadium.
The host Trojans (15-13, 5-3 SAC) never trailed in 3-2 and 5-2 wins over the Railsplitters (14-8, 2-6 SAC).
Game 1: Anderson 3, Lincoln Memorial 2
After allowing a run in the 1
st inning, an
Andrew Keene solo homerun tied the score at 1-1 for the Railsplitters. The Trojans added another single tally in the 5
th, but Lincoln Memorial responded right back again in the Top of the 6
th with a
Ryan Kurth sacrifice fly to knot it up at 2-2. Anderson scored the final run of the game on a triple in the bottom half of the inning for the opener's final scoring.
Keene went 3-for-4 to lead the Railsplitter offense, while starting pitcher
Patrick Queener struck out 10 in 7.0 innings of work but took the loss to fall to 2-2 on the mound this season. Jackson Herring threw 3.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen for Anderson to improve to 2-0.
Game 2: Anderson 5, Lincoln Memorial 3
A big 3-run 1
st inning for the host Trojans proved too much for Lincoln Memorial to overcome, as Anderson would lead by at least 2 runs the rest of the way.
Cameron Bowen hit an RBI triple in the 4
th, and
Carson Boles knocked a 2-run homerun in the 6
th inning for Lincoln Memorial's offense, as Boles finished a triple short of the cycle while driving in 2 runs and scoring twice himself.
Anderson's Austin Mercado (3-0) got the win after giving up 3 runs in 5.0 innings, while
Ethan Bobo (2-1) was hit with the loss after allowing 4 runs on 5 hits in 2.2 innings of work.
