TIGERVILLE, SC- The Railsplitters were on the road today for a tough Monday matchup against a top-ranked North Greenville team that was 24-2 going into the contest.Â
Good pitching and solid defense would be the story of the beginning of the game as the competition would remain scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning. The Crusaders would strike first but
Andrew Keene would quickly answer with a solo home run of his own in the top of the sixth to even up the score.Â
North Greenville would retake the lead in the bottom of the sixth and add to it with another run in the bottom of the seventh. The Railsplitters weren't going to shy away, however, and would gain a run back with a
Gavin Whitehurst double, scoring
Carson Boles in the top of the eighth inning.Â
A three-up-three-down bottom half of the frame would allow LMU to continue their momentum into the top of the ninth inning. Stepping up to the plate,
Ryan Kurth would blast a homer to left field to force the game into extra innings. The Crusaders would prevail in the bottom of the tenth, though, to overcome the Railsplitter rally.Â
Lincoln Memorial is now 15-9 on the season and will be back at Lamar Hennon Field in Harrogate on Wednesday, March 22nd, for a showdown with Young Harris starting at 4 PM.
