HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial baseball team took a back-and-forth midweek battle with Young Harris 8-7 on Wednesday at Lamar Hennon Field.
The Railsplitters (16-9) topped the Mountain Lions (19-9) in a game that featured a trio of lead changes in a 4-inning stretch, culminating in a 2-run Bottom of the 7
th inning with
Ryan Kurth hitting the go-ahead sacrifice fly to put the hosts ahead by the final score.
Young Harris crossed the plate once each in the 2
nd and 4
th innings for an early 2-0 edge, but
Gavin Whitehurst hit an RBI single and Kurth a 2-run double in the 4
th to give the Railsplitters a 3-2 lead. The hosts added 2 more runs to the board in the 5
th inning on a
Kasten Harvey RBI triple and a run-scoring double by
Andrew Keene.
The visitors tied it up at 5-5 in the Top of the 6
th and went ahead 7-6 in the Top of the 7
th before the Railsplitters rallied back.
Colin Murphy (2-0) threw 1.2 innings of relief with 4 strikeouts to pick up the win. Brady Caloway (3-1) gave up 2 runs in 0.2 innings of work to take the loss for the Mountain Lions.
David Brian Ellison pitched a scoreless 9
th for save No. 4 for him on the year.
Lincoln Memorial was led offensively by Kurth (3 RBI) and Harvey (2-for-5, 2 runs, 1 RBI).
The Railsplitters host a series with Tusculum this weekend beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
