@LMU_Softball Drubs Kentucky State in Doubleheader Sweep

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial softball team run-ruled Kentucky State in both ends of a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at Dorothy Neely Field heading into a mini spring break for the hosts.

The Railsplitters (24-15) made quick work of the Thorobreds (10-14), beating them 9-1 in Game 1 then 18-0 in Game 2. The 18 runs were the most scored by Lincoln Memorial this season and the first time scoring in double digits since Feb. 17 against Emmanuel.

Game 1: Lincoln Memorial 9, Kentucky State 1 (5 innings)

Kelsie Tuggle jumpstarted the Railsplitters with a 1st inning grand slam to left field, and they would cruise to victory behind starting pitcher Emma Frost's dominant outing.

McKenzie Henry added a pair of insurance runs on an RBI single in the 2nd inning and an RBI double in the 4th inning, while Gracie Palmer hit a run-scoring triple in the 5th before scoring the mercy rule-inducing run on a fielder's choice grounder by Anna Kate Reichter.

Frost was only an out away from a potential perfect game but allowed a solo homerun with 2 outs in the 5th for the only runner to reach base against her. She struck out 12 in 5.0 innings of work to improve to 13-7 on the year. Kayla West fell to 5-4 after giving up the 9 runs in 4.1 innings.

Game 2: Lincoln Memorial 18, Kentucky State 0 (5 innings)

An 8-run 2nd inning highlighted an offensive explosion for Lincoln Memorial, who added 2 in the 1st, 2 in the 3rd and 6 in the 4th for its highest output offensively of the season.

Both Palmer and Reichter had 3 hits in the game, while Reese Vivrette hit for 3 RBI and Madison and McKenzie Henry 2 RBI each. Hayley Tamaro (9-7) pitched 3.0 innings of shutout ball with 2 strikeouts to pick up the win, while Kentucky State's Theresa Pelland (1-3) was hit with the loss after allowing 10 runs in 2.0 innings.
