@LMU_Softball Takes Extra-Inning Nightcap in Split at Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial softball team split a doubleheader at Carson-Newman on Wednesday afternoon, winning 10-6 in 8 innings in Game 2.

The Railsplitters (25-16, 9-5 South Atlantic Conference) fell 2-1 in the opener to the Eagles (25-7, 10-4 SAC) before taking the cathartic nightcap with a 4-run Top of the 8th.

Game 1: Carson-Newman 2, Lincoln Memorial 1

The Eagles scored single tallies on RBI doubles in the 3rd and 5th innings, and that was all they'd need behind starting pitcher Rylee Gattis (9-3) who allowed only the 1 run on 4 hits to pick up the win.

Lincoln Memorial could muster only a Reese Vivrette RBI sac fly for its scoring, as Madison Henry led the visiting offense with a double, 3 walks and a steal. Emma Frost allowed 2 runs on 5 hits in 6.0 innings to be hit with the loss.

Game 2: Lincoln Memorial 10, Carson-Newman 6 (8 innings)

The visiting Lady Railsplitters led by 3 runs twice (4-1 after 2 innings and 6-3 after the Top of the 7th), but Carson-Newman hit a 3-run homerun in the Bottom of the 7th to force extras. RBI hits by Anna Kate Reichter, Sterre den Duijn and McKenzie Henry with 2 outs in the next frame gave Lincoln Memorial the lead and some insurance runs.

McKenzie Henry led the Railsplitter offense, going 3-for-5 with a homerun, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored, while Madison Henry, Reichter, den Duijn and Kelsie Tuggle had a pair of hits each. Starting pitcher Hayley Tamaro threw 6.0 innings of 5-run ball, and Emma Frost (14-8) came on in relief to get the win. NicKolette Ferguson took the loss for the hosts after giving up 5 runs on 6 hits in 2.1 innings in relief to fall to 4-2.
