HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Lincoln Memorial softball team shutout Coker in both ends of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Saleeby Stokes Field.
The Lady Railsplitters (27-16, 11-5 South Atlantic Conference) won 7-0 in the opener then 5-0 in Game 2, getting sparkling performances in the pitchers circle from
Emma Frost and
Hayley Tamaro, 2 homeruns by
Katy Pozzuto and 5 hits from
Sterre den Duijn.
Game 1: Lincoln Memorial 7, Coker 0
Tight through 5 innings, Lincoln Memorial put the game away with 3 runs in the 6
th and 2 in the 7
th.
McKenzie Henry hit a solo homer to highlight the trio of runs for the Railsplitters in the 6
th, while
Kelsie Tuggle and
Victoria Conley had RBI knocks in the 7
th inning.
Katy Pozzuto hit a 2-run homerun in the 4
th to get the scoring started.
Frost scattered 4 hits over the 7.0 shutout innings while striking out 6 to improve to 15-9. Coker's Tibby Hession (6-8) was hit with the loss after 4.1 innings of 2-run ball.
Game 2: Lincoln Memorial 5, Coker 0
The visitors scored single runs in the 1
st, 2
nd and 3
rd innings and added 2 more in the 7
th for more than enough run support for Tamaro.
RBI singles from den Duijn,
Gracie Palmer and Henry got Lincoln Memorial out to a 3-0 lead. Pozzuto hit another 2-run homer to give the Railsplitters some room for comfort late.
Tamaro (11-8) struck out 3 and scattered 7 hits in her 2
nd 7-inning shutout on the year. Coker's Jenae Fedewa fell to 9-9 after giving up 5 runs in 6.2 innings.
