Pozzuto Shines in @LMU_Softball Split vs Anderson

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial softball team split a doubleheader with Anderson on Wednesday afternoon at Dorothy Neely Field, winning Game 2 by a score of 9-5.

The Lady Railsplitters (28-17, 12-6 South Atlantic Conference) salvaged the day with an offensive outburst in the nightcap after the Trojans (24-18, 8-12 SAC) rallied for a pair of runs in the 7th inning to win 4-2 in Game 1.

Game 1: Anderson 4, Lincoln Memorial 2

After Anderson got on the board in the Top of the 1st to lead 1-0, the Railsplitters scored in the 2nd on a Victoria Conley RBI single and in the 4th on a Katy Pozzuto RBI double to take a 2-1 edge. The Trojans tied it in the 6th before scoring twice in the final frame to take the opener.

Carson Hobbs improved to 10-7 after throwing a complete game for the Trojans while Hayley Tamaro (10-7) was hit with the loss allowing 4 runs (3 earned) in 7.0 innings. Pozzuto's 2 hits led the Lincoln Memorial offense.

Game 2: Lincoln Memorial 9, Anderson 5

Pozzuto's bases-clearing double in the 3rd inning put the hosts up 5-1, and they would lead by at least 3 runs the rest of the way to earn the split.

Anderson again put a single tally on the board in the Top of the 1st before the Railsplitters scored twice in the 2nd followed by Pozzuto's 3-run knock in the 3rd. Lincoln Memorial added on in the 5th inning with RBI hits from Sterre den Duijn, Pozzuto and Kelsie Tuggle and in the 6th on a bases loaded walk by den Duijn.

Starter Emma Frost threw a complete game, striking out 8 to improve to 16-8 while Anderson's Lane Edgington (9-8) allowed all 9 runs to suffer the loss. Pozzuto again led the offense with 5 RBI, finishing the day 4-for-6 with 3 doubles, 6 RBI and 3 runs scored.
