@LMU_Softball Up to 30 Wins after Doubleheader Sweep at Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Lincoln Memorial softball team swept Limestone in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Jimmy Martin Field behind strong pitching performances.

The Lady Railsplitters (30-17, 14-6 South Atlantic Conference) won the opener 3-2 and the nightcap 4-1 to leave the Saints (23-19, 12-10 SAC) with the pair of home setbacks.

Game 1: Lincoln Memorial 3, Limestone 2

The visitors scored twice in the 4th inning on a 2-run double by Katy Pozzuto before a sac fly from Sterre den Duijn put them up 3-1, and that would be all the run support starting pitcher Emma Frost would need as she went the distance.

Frost scattered 7 hits and allowed 2 runs in her complete game win to improve to 17-8, while Limestone's Caroline Ruth (8-10) gave up the 3 runs in 5.1 innings to be hit with the loss.

Game 2: Lincoln Memorial 4, Limestone 1

Hayley Tamaro shut down the Saints after they scored their lone run in the 1st inning, and Pozzuto had 2 more RBI to lead the Railsplitters to another win.

Gracie Palmer hit a 2-run single in the 2nd to put Lincoln Memorial up 2-1. Pozzuto had a sac fly in the 3rd followed by an RBI base hit in the 7th to round out the day's scoring.

Tamaro (11-7) allowed no earned runs and struck out 5 in the complete game effort. Haley White (7-4) shouldered the loss for the Saints after surrendering 3 runs in 3.0 innings.
