@LMU_Softball Returns to Winning Ways in Sweep of UVA Wise

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial softball team swept a doubleheader away from UVA Wise on Saturday afternoon at the Dorothy Neely Softball Complex to improve to 3-1 in South Atlantic Conference play.

The Railsplitters (17-10, 3-1 SAC) led for the balance of the first game after scoring twice in the 2nd inning before posting a 7th inning comeback victory in the second game of the twinbill.

Game 1: Lincoln Memorial 4, UVA Wise 2

The hosts put 2 runs on the board in the Bottom of the 2nd thanks to RBI walks from Gracie Palmer and Reece Vivrette. Later RBI singles from Sterre den Duijn in the 5th inning and Katie Tuggle in the 6th inning provided the rest of the scoring for Lincoln Memorial.

UVA Wise pushed across single tallies in the 5th and 7th innings, but they weren't enough to knock starting pitcher Emma Frost (10-4) out. Frost threw a complete game allowing 2 runs in 7 innings and striking out 3 in the winning decision. McKenna Falwell (1-5) was hit with the loss for the visiting Cavaliers.

Tuggle and den Duijn paced the Lincoln Memorial offense with a pair of hits each.

Game 2: Lincoln Memorial 3, UVA Wise 2

Lincoln Memorial needed a late-inning rally to come back from a 2-1 deficit and sweep UVA Wise.

Tuggle got the scoring started for the Railsplitters with an RBI hit in the 1st inning, but the hosts would not score again until the final inning when Victoria Conley and Tuggle had RBI singles, the one by Tuggle being of the walkoff variety. Tuggle again had a big game, going 3-for-4 at the plate with 2 RBI.

Hayley Tamaro (5-5) only gave up 2 runs, both in the 4th inning, in a complete game win, striking out 7. Alivia Nolley dropped to 1-7 in the losing effort.
