GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial softball team had a pair of historic achievements in Wednesday afternoon's doubleheader sweep over Tusculum at Red Edmonds Field, as
Emma Frost threw a perfect game in Game 1, and
Sierra Hucklebee broke the program's all-time career RBI record in Game 2.
The Railsplitters (19-10, 5-1 South Atlantic Conference) breezed to a 6-0 win in the first contest over the Pioneers (11-14, 0-6 SAC) before using a late-inning rally to win 8-3 in the second game.
Game 1: Lincoln Memorial 6, Tusculum 0
Frost struck out 5 batters among the 21 times they came to the plate and went back to the dugout in the perfect game effort. The ace got 9 flyouts and 7 groundouts while needing only 68 pitches to get through 7.0 innings in the masterful performance.
Offensively, the visiting Railsplitters plated a pair of runs in the 3
rd inning on a
Sterre den Duijn RBI single and a
Kelsie Tuggle sacrifice fly before
McKenzie Henry also tacked on a sac fly in the 4
th to extend Lincoln Memorial's advantage to 3-0. Hucklebee hit an RBI double, and Henry knocked a 2-run homerun for a 3-run 6
th inning for the game's final scoring.
Frost improved to 11-4 with the win, while Tusculum's Emily Sappington (5-7) took the loss after allowing 6 runs on 9 hits in 7.0 innings of work. Hucklebee pounded out 3 hits while Henry knocked in 3 RBI to lead the Lincoln Memorial offense.
Game 2: Lincoln Memorial 8, Tusculum 3
Trailing 3-2 entering the 6
th inning, the Lady Railsplitters crossed the plate 5 times, including 4 runs with 2 outs, to put the game away and sweep the Pioneers.
Madison Henry hit an RBI single in the 2
nd inning, and
Kelsie Tuggle pounded a solo homerun to left field in the 4
th to set up the big 6
th for the Railsplitters, during which Hucklebee's single gave her 162 RBI in her career, passing Renae Carter ('05) for the most all-time at Lincoln Memorial.
Katie Tuggle (sac fly), den Duijn (2-RBI single) and
Katy Pozzuto (RBI single) all knocked in runs with 2 outs before
McKenzie Henry added another insurance tally with an RBI single of her own in the 7
th inning to back starting pitcher
Hayley Tamaro.
Tamaro allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits while striking out 4 in the complete game effort to improve to 6-5 on the year, while Ireland Cavanaugh (4-6) took the loss giving up 7 runs on 11 hits. Hucklebee again had a 3-hit game to pace the Railsplitters on offense.
