JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial baseball team fell short in a comeback attempt Saturday afternoon in the opener of a 3-game series at Carson-Newman as the Eagles held on for a 6-5 win.
The Railsplitters (19-11, 6-7 South Atlantic Conference) were down 4-0 after 3 innings and 6-2 after the 5
th to the Eagles (17-15, 9-4 SAC) before scoring single tallies in the 6
th, 8
th and 9
th innings, but they stranded runners on 1
st and 2
nd base to end the game.
Cameron Bowen's 2-run homerun in the 5
th got the Lincoln Memorial offense going, as Bowen went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.
Carson Boles also had a big day at the plate for the Railsplitters (4-for-5, 2 doubles).
Carson-Newman's Noah Pridmore threw 5.2 innings of 3-run ball to improve to 4-1 on the mound. Lincoln Memorial's
Patrick Queener was hit with the loss after striking out 6 and allowing 5 runs in 7.0 innings.
The Railsplitters and Eagles will conclude their series with a Sunday doubleheader starting at Noon.
