HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial baseball team split a doubleheader with Coker on Saturday to win the series.
The Railsplitters (21-14, 8-10 South Atlantic Conference) fell 6-5 in Game 1 before shutting out the Cobras (15-28, 6-15 SAC) 3-0 in Game 2 for the series victory.
Game 1: Coker 6, Lincoln Memorial 5
The visiting Cobras trailed 5-0 after 6 innings but rallied back, scoring twice in the 7
th inning and 4 times in the 8
th to complete the comeback.
Lincoln Memorial got on the board in the 2
nd with a sac fly by
Mitch Petzelt, while
Ryan Kurth scored on a wild pitch and
Jared Hancock hit an RBI double in the 4
th inning for a 3-0 Railsplitter lead. A
Kasten Harvey RBI triple followed by another Petzelt sac fly in the 6
th added on to the lead.
Lefty Garrett Dunn (3-3) picked up the win for the Cobras in 4.0 innings of 1-run ball out of the bullpen, while
Colin Murphy (3-1) took the loss after allowing 1 run in 2.0 innings of relief.
Game 2: Lincoln Memorial 3, Coker 0 (7 innings)
Scoreless through 5 innings, the hosts put 3 runs on the board in the 6
th thanks to a Kurth sac fly and Hancock 2-run double for the only scoring of the game.
Starter
Eli Edds improved to 4-2 with the win, throwing 6.1 shutout innings and striking out 6 while allowing only 1 hit.
David Brian Ellison picked up his 7
th save by getting the final pair of outs. Coker's Aaron Diaz fell to 3-4 after giving up the 3 runs in 5.2 innings of work.
Hancock was the day's most productive hitter, going 4-for-7 at the dish with 3 doubles and 3 RBI.
