LMU Women's Basketball Takes Down UVA-Wise

Harrogate, TN - Lincoln Memorial's Women's Basketball took down UVA-Wise this evening, 88-78, in Tex Arena.  This moves #18 LMU to 11-1 on the year and 6-0 in SAC play.

Lauren Flowers led all scorers with 26 points with Alexa Smiddy and Jordan Maney with 15 point each.  Geo Rios pulled down 15 boards to lead all players.  Matty Tanner sank four threes for 12 points.

LMU was 15-15 in free-throws and had nine fewer turnovers (10-19) than the Cavaliers.

The Cavs would score first in the game, but the Lady Railsplitters would build a six point lead with four minutes to go in the first quarter with baskets by Maney, Smiddy, Rios,and Flowers.  UVA-Wise would go on a eight-point run to take a two-point lead until a three-pointer by Smiddy put LMU back in the lead.  UVA-Wise would battle to keep a one point lead at the end of the period, 18-17.

LMU would start the second quarter with threes by Flowers and Maney to take a five point lead.  Baskets by Chloe Savage and Rios and a three by Tanner would give LMU a 10 point lead.  Flowers would add on with a two and Tanner would drop in a three to push the lead to 11.  UVA-Wise would go on a seven point run to close the gap to four until Smiddy hit another three.  Zyan Smith would hit two jumpers and Smiddy would score another to give LMU an 11-point lead at the half, 48-37. 

UVA-Wise would open the third quarter with a basket, but Smiddy would answer keeping the lead at 11.  LMU would go on a ten point run with free-throws by Savage, and seven points by Flowers to push the lead to 19.  UVA-Wise would go on their own 11 point run the cut the lead to eight.  Flowers and Smith baskets would get the lead back to 12 until the Cavs went on a seven point run to cut the lead to five.  A Smiddy jumper at the buzzer gave LMU a seven point lead at the end of the third.

UVA-Wise would open the fourth with a three, but Tanner would drop in a couple threes to keep LMU's lead at eight.  UVA-Wise and LMU would trade baskets until two Flowers free-throws would give LMU an 11 point lead.  The Railsplitters would end the game on two free-throws by Rios, 88-78.

#18 LMU will face #6 Catawba in a SAC game in Salibury, NC on Saturday, January 13.  LMU is undefeated in SAC play and is in first place.
