LMU Women's Basketball Falls to Mars Hill

Mars Hill, NC - LMU's Women's Basketball dropped a game to Mars Hill this evening, 49-43, at Mars Hill.  This puts LMU at 11-3, 6-2 SAC, for the season.  Mars Hill improves to 7-10, 2-5 SAC.

Notables:
Lauren Flowers led LMU scorers with 12, Alexa Smiddy and Geo Rios had seven.
MHU had three players in double-figures, Tateyoina Harris scored 18.
Smiddy had five assists to lead the game.
Rios led LMU in rebounds with 12.  MHU's Harris had 15.
LMU has 22 fouls compared to MHU's 12.  
LMU was 3-6 in free-throws, MHU was 15-22.

This game was a battle of quarters: LMU went up 11-6 in the first; MHU outscored LMU 15-5 in the second to take the lead at the half, 21-16; LMU won the third 18-8 to lead 34-29; MHU came back in the fourth, 20-9, to win the game, 49-43.

The Lions started the scoring with a three, but LMU answered with baskets from Jordan Maney and Lauren Flowers.  After a couple MHU free-throws, LMU went on a seven-point run with a jumper from Geo Rios and a three and a layup by Flowers, 11-6.

MHU started the second quarter with a nine-point run before Maney had LMU's first basket of the quarter.  MHU scored five more before Matty Tanner hit a three.  The Lions would score three more to end the half, 21-16.

Chloe Savage would start the scoring in the third with a free-throw. followed by a three from Rios.  Flowers would move LMU ahead with a layup, followed by a Smiddy three, 25-21.  Sophie Henry would drop in two three's and Jamyah Winter's triple would close out LMU's scoring for the quarter for an LMU lead, 34-29.

Flowers would open the fourth with a three, but MHU would answer with an 11-point run.  Two free-throws by Smiddy and a jumper by Rios would give LMU back the lead, 41-40.  MHU would score the next three until Smiddy made a layup to get the game within one with 2:16 to go, 43-44.  The Lions would score the next five to close out the game, 49-43.

LMU will host Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday, the 20th, in Tex Arena at 2pm.  It will be First-Responder Night.
