Harrogate, TN - The Lincoln Memorial women's basketball team was back in action at home on Saturday just three days after falling to Mars Hill on the road. Entering the game, the Railsplitters maintained a 11-3 record overall with a 6-2 mark in conference play. Lenoir-Rhyne entered with a 12-4 record overall and a 7-1 record in conference.
The Lady Bears got off to a hot start, jumping out to a 12-6 lead. Leading by four with just two minutes remaining in the first quarter, Lenoir-Rhyne went on a 5-0 run to take a 17-10 lead with just :20 remaining in the first period. Only scoring one more bucket during the opening frame, the Lady Splitters trailed the Lady Bears 19-10 after one. The second period started the same way the first ended. Lenoir-Rhyne scored the first bucket of the period to take a 21-10 lead. A free throw and a bucket allowed Lincoln Memorial to cut back to within single digits at 21-13, however, the Lady Bears responded with a 4-0 run of its own to take a 25-13 lead. The Lady Splitters added another bucket to cut the lead to 10, 25-15, and the teams finished the fist half trading buckets, seeing the Lady Bears take a 30-20 lead into the halftime intermission.
The teams were on even footing to start the second half. With the score sitting at 42-33 in favor of Lenoir-Rhyne, Lincoln Memorial began to fight back. The Lady Splitters trailed 50-41 to start the fourth. The teams continued to trade buckets before the Lady Splitters began to heat up. Trailing 59-51 with 4:20 remaining in the game, Lincoln Memorial drew back to within two points, 59-57, on the heels of a 9-0 run. However, the Lady Splitters would fail to score again, seeing Lenoir-Rhyne escape with a 68-59 victory.
Jodan Maney led Lincoln Memorial in scoring with 22 points and nine rebounds. She was followed in scoring by
Lauren Flowers with 14 points. Geo Rios added five points and 13 rebounds to lead the team in rebounding for the game.
Matty Tanner added nine points, going a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc.
Alexa Smiddy and
Chloe Savage added four points each.
Zyan Smith added one point to round out scoring for the Lady Splitters.
With the loss, Lincoln Memorial moved to 11-4 on the year with a 6-3 mark in conference play. The Lady Splitters will be back in action on Wednesday against Tusculum. Tip-off is slated for 5:30.
