Harrogate, TN - The Lincoln Memorial Lady Splitters were back in action on Wednesday night at home against the Tusculum Lady Pioneers, seeking to avoid a fourth loss in a row. Lincoln Memorial entered the game with an 11-4 record with a 6-3 mark in conference play, with a 5-1 home record this season. Tusculum entered the game on a nine game losing streak with a 3-12 record, including a 1-8 mark in conference play. The Lady Pioneers had only won one game on the road this season.
From the jump, it was evident that the Lady Splitters had intentions of leaving everything on the court. Lincoln Memorial quickly jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead to start the game before the Lady Pioneers were able to find their first basket of the game. After trading buckets for a couple of possessions, Lincoln Memorial held a 13-6 lead. On the heels of a 8-0 run, the lead swelled to 21-6 before Tusculum began to fight back. The Lady Splitters maintained a substantial 23-10 advantage after the first period, shooting 50% from the floor, including an eye-popping 57% from beyond the arc.
The second period was much more competitive, as the Lady Splitters edged the Lady Pioneers in scoring 18-15 for the period, maintaining a sizable 41-25 advantage at the half. Lincoln Memorial dominated numerous statistical categories throughout the first half. The Lady Splitters scored 10 points off 11 forced turnovers, outscored the Lady Pioneers' bench 11-4, and held the advantage in fast break situations, 13-5.
Lincoln Memorial began the second half the same way it began the game: dominating. The third period belonged solely to the Lady Splitters, outscoring the Lady Pioneers 29-18 for the period, taking a substantial 70-43 into the final frame. From there all that was left was for the clock to strike zero. Outscoring Tusculum 17-14 in the final frame, Lincoln Memorial was able to post an 87-57 victory, improving to 12-4 on the season with a 7-3 mark in conference play. The Lady Splitters' defense was tremendous throughout the game, forcing 22 turnovers, and scoring 26 points off those turnovers. Tusculum had zero points off turnovers throughout the game's duration.
Lincoln Memorial had a very well-balanced scoring attack, with five players in double figures.
Lauren Flowers and
Matty Tanner led scoring with 17 points apiece. They each added five and four rebounds respectively. Flowers connected on 80% of her shots from long range, going 4-of-5 for the game. Tanner shot a 50% clip from long range, connecting on 5-of-10 attempts.
Alexa Smiddy added 15 points with three assists and three rebounds, connecting on a trio of three pointers during the game.
Jordan Maney added 13 points and five rebounds.
Chloe Savage totaled 10 points and three boards.
Sophie Henry was everywhere for LMU throughout the game, totaling six points, four steals, four assists, and three rebounds. Geo Rios added five points, three assists, and five rebounds in limited action after getting in foul trouble early.
Zyan Smith and
Jazzmen Robinson added two points each to round out scoring for the Lady Splitters.
Lincoln Memorial will be back in action on Saturday at home against Anderson. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 PM.
