Wheatley and the Railsplitters Take Down Charleston in Exciting Fashion

Harrogate, TN- Lincoln Memorial Men's Volleyball is now 4-2 on the season after their five-set victory over the University of Charleston on Saturday.

The first set would go LMU's way 25-22. In the set, Lincoln Memorial would outhit the Golden Eagles .217 to .154, with Justin Sharfenaker gaining five kills in the frame. Charleston would mount a comeback, however, and rally to win the second set 25-19, this time earning more kills on a higher hitting percentage. In need of a spark plug, Griffin Wheatley would do just that for the Railsplitters, entering in the third set with four kills on a .667 hitting percentage to help bring the team a 2-1 set lead with a 25-16 win. 14 kills and a .423 hitting percentage would allow the Golden Eagles to mount momentum, though, taking the fourth 25-21 to force a fifth. The last would be a nail-biter, with 11 ties and five lead changes in the closing frame. The Railsplitters would take the charge and finish out the set with three straight points to win 15-12. Wheatley would finish with with 11 kills and three assisted blocks on the day. Three others from LMU would also finish with 10+ kills (Justin Sharfenaker, Matthew Gentry, and Shay Spadaro), with setter Kohl Kutsch and libero Tate Colebaugh also being clutch contributors.
