LMU Women's Basketball Defeats Coker

Hartsville, SC - Lincoln Memorial's Women's Basketball team took down Coker this afternoon, 55-43.

LMU shot 44.4% from the field compared to 33.3% for Coker.  The Lady Railsplitters had three players in double digit scoring with Jordan Maney having 18, Geo Rios dropped in 13, and Alexa Smiddy had 10.  Maney, also, led the team in rebounds with eight, followed by Rios and Chloe Savage with seven.  Rios led the team with four assists.

LMU as a team brought down seven more rebounds than the Cobras (37-30) and edged Coker in assists (10-8) and steals (9-8).

The Lady Railsplitters took an early 2-0 but was down 3-2 with over 6:00 to go in the first quarter.  Alexa Smiddy hit two three's to give LMU an 8-3 lead.  Coker would comeback with a couple baskets until Rios scored to hold on to a 10-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Lauren Flowers hit a three to start the second quarter but Coker would answer back with one of their own.  After trading baskets, the Cobras got a couple of baskets to take a four point lead until Chloe Savage scored a two.  Jordan Maney would tie the game at 19 with a jumper, but Coker would sink a free throw to take a 20-19 lead into halftime.

Coker would score first in the third but Savage would answer with a two.  After a Maney free-throw, a three by Rios, and baskets by Savage and Maney, LMU held a five point lead.  A layup by Savage gave LMU a six-point lead at the end of the third quarter, 35-29.

Smiddy would open the scoring in the fourth with a two, followed by Maney to push the lead to 10.  Rios would score to push the lead to keep the lead at 10, but Coker would not go away.  The Cobras would cut the lead to five (41-36), but LMU would start pulling away with baskets by Sophie Henry and Rios.  A layup by Maney would put the game out of reach.  Baskets by Rios and Maney would seal the game.


The Women will host UVA-Wise on Wednesday, the 10th, before traveling to Catawba on Saturday, the 13th.
