Harrogate, TN- LMU Women's Volleyball handed Carson-Newman their first conference loss of the year on Wednesday in Mary Mars Gymnasium.
Kristen Moehring would reach a career milestone in the contest as the Splitters would win in four sets: 17-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-19.Â
Carson-Newman would begin strong as LMU struggled to find a rhythm in the first set. The Eagles would hit for .312 in the frame to LMU's .062 as C-N would take the early lead. The roles would quickly reverse as the Splitters would outhit their opponents and
Lauren Pickett would add to the momentum with three service aces to even up the score. A tight third set would feature seven ties and three lead changes, Lincoln Memorial eventually gaining the edge thanks to a couple of huge kills from Moehring. The energy wouldn't stop there, LMU taking the fourth set in equally exciting fashion and move C-N to 11-4 (7-1) on the season.Â
Entering the night,
Kristen Moehring had 980 kills to her career stat total. It would be fitting that the team's kill leader would be the one to put away match point to give LMU the win and earn herself her 20th kill of the night, bringing her career tally to 1,000. Abigail Kelser would also add to the attack column, earning 12 for herself. Setter
Lauren Pickett continues to be the glue to the offensive effort, tallying 41 assists on the night to go alongside her four service aces.
Agata Bogdanska and
Lauren Jacob would do their jobs defensively, Bogdanska earning five total blocks and Jacobs posting 26 digs.
Lincoln Memorial improves to 10-4 on the season, 4-3 in South Atlantic Conference play. They'll hit the road this weekend where they'll travel to Salisbury, NC on Friday to take on Catawba followed by a make up contest against Limestone in Gaffney, SC on Saturday.Â
