Matthews, NC - The Lincoln Memorial women's soccer team will play in the semifinal match in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament against #1 seed Wingate on Friday.
This is the first time that the Lady Railsplitters have made it to the conference semifinals since the 2019 season.Â
LMU has played Wingate 24 times in series history, with the series record being 6-8. Their most recent match up was in the regular season on October 5th, where they fell to the Bulldogs 1-3. Despite that, the last time that Lincoln Memorial played Wingate in Matthews, NC was the 2019 SAC Conference Championship game, where LMU came out victorious 1-0.
Lincoln Memorial is currently on a 3-game win streak. They are coming off of a win against Coker in the SAC Quarterfinals, where the game ended in a 1-1 draw at the end of double overtime, and Lincoln Memorial came out on top in penalty kicks 4-2. In regulation,
Ryan Branson scored early in the 8th minute with an assist coming from
Samantha Hulstaert. In the penalty shootout,
Jade Brown,
Meg Anderson,
Alicia Bevins, and
Raven Wellington all made their penalty shots, while
Bente Latenstein made the winning save in Coker's 4th shot to give LMU the win.
Branson is currently in the lead with 14 points (6 goals, 2 assists), with Bevins behind her with 7 (2 goals 3 assists). In the post season awards, Branson and
Viktoria Filsner were named second team all-conference, while Bevins, Latenstein,
Donna Van Der Zalm were named third team all-conference.
Wingate is coming off of a 1-0 win against #8 seed Carson-Newman in the SAC Quarterfinals.Â
The semifinal match is set to kick off at 5 pm in the Matthews SportsPlex in Matthews, NC. If LMU comes out victorious, they will play in the SAC Tournament Championship game on Sunday, November 17th at 4 pm against the winner of #6 Anderson and #2 Lenoir-Rhyne.
