Women's Soccer Knocks #1 Wingate To Advance to SAC Championship

Matthews, NC - The Lincoln Memorial women's soccer team knocks the #1 seed Wingate out of the SAC tournament as they defeat the Wingate Bullsogs 5-4 in the semifinals, advancing to the SAC championship game for the first time since 2019.

This was one of the highest scoring games this season for the Lady Railsplitters, with 9 goals being scored from both teams combined. The first half was silent compared to the second half, with Alicia Bevins scoring the lone goal of the first half in the 28th minute with an assist from Ryan Branson

The second half, however, was a different ballgame. Wingate's Manu Baptista Filipe scored the equalizer in the 48th minute. 10 minutes later in the 58th minute, Branson scored to take the lead, 2-1, with the assist coming from Hannah Stafford. Not much later in the 63rd minute, Ellie Bowen scores her first goal of the season to extend their lead, assisted by Bevins. In the 70th minute, Branson secures a brace as she scores off of Bevins' second assist of the night.

Wingate scores 3 straight goals to equalize the game: Angel Maino in the 74th minute (Makenna Freeman assist), Sascha Larsen in the 82nd minute, and Larsen again in the 84th minute (Audor Halldorsdottir assist). Viktoria Filsner scores the game-winning goal in the 87th minute off of a Branson assist to secure the win for the Lady Railsplitters.

With the win, the LMU improves to 10-4-3, and advance to the South Atlantic Conference Championship Game for the first time since 2019. They will play the winner of Lenoir-Rhyne and Anderson, which face off at 8 pm tonight.
