Gaffney, SC - The Lincoln Memorial women's basketball team opens their season with a 69-52 win against the Converse Valkyries Saturday afternoon in the SAC/Conference Carolinas Challenge.
The Lady Railsplitters took control of the 1st quarter, outscoring Converse 19-5. Lincoln Memorial also dominated the 2nd quarter, outscoring the Valkyries once again 18-8, with the score being 37-13 going into halftime. When the play resumed in the 3rd, Converse finally got their offensive strategies going and outscored the Lady Railsplitters 11-16. Despite that, Lincoln Memorial remains in the lead going into the 4th quarter 48-29. The 4th quarter was high scoring for both teams, with Converse ultimately leading the 4th quarter 21-23. Even though Converse lead the second half, LMU extended the lead enough in the first half to where they were still able to secure the win 69-52.
Kamil Collier led the team on the day, with 15 points and 17 rebounds.
Matty Tanner also had 15 points and 5 rebounds. Both
Alexa Smiddy recorded 12 points and 4 rebounds on the day, while
Lexi Patty scored 10 points and posted 6 rebounds and a game high 2 blocks.
Federica Lagana registered 6 points, while
Asia Barr,
Jamyah Winter, and
Keiara Anderson all scored 3.
Dominique Rodriguez ended the day with 2 points.
With the win, LMU improves to 1-0 overall.
The Lady Railsplitters have a tight turnaround, with their next game being tomorrow afternoon at 2 pm against King University.
