Women's Soccer Advances To Tournament Semifinals

Harrogate, TN - The Lincoln Memorial women's soccer team advances to the semifinals of the SAC Tournament as they win 4-2 in a penalty shootout after ending in a 1-1 draw at the end of double overtime. 

The Lady Railsplitters start scoring early in the first half as Ryan Branson scores her 6th goal of the season in the 8th minute, assisted by Samantha Hulstaert, The Cobras respond soon after in the 11th minute when Lily Borgman scores off of a Maia Clark assist. 

Despite LMU and Coker having 19 and 3 shots respectively in the second half, the score remains 1-1 at the end of regulation. 

Both teams battled in each of the two 10-minute overtimes, but the score remained the same at 1-1 at the end of double overtime, which means that the game would end in a penalty shootout.

LMU's Jade Brown would be the first to shoot, making her PK. Coker's Chloe Mullen would then make her shot. In the second round, Meg Anderson and Mila Rausch would both make their penalty shots. In round three, Alicia Bevins would make hers, but Maia Clark's shot would hit the cross bar and escape the back of the net, with the shootout score being 3-2 at the end of the 3rd. Raven Wellington would then make her penalty shot, then Coker's Lily Borgman's penalty would be saved by goalkeeper Bente Latenstein, giving Lincoln Memorial the win. 

With the win, LMU improves to 9-4-3 on the season. Lincoln Memorial advances to the semifinal match of the SAC Tournament on Friday, November 15th at 5pm.
