Harrogate, TN- The Lincoln Memorial Women's Basketball team would avenge their road loss earlier in the season on Saturday, taking down Mars Hill 91 to 63. The explosive 91 points scored would be the second most in a game this season. With the win, the team improves to 14-6 on the year, 9-5 in SAC play.Â
The first quarter would be a back-and-forth battle between the programs. Several lead changes and ties would be the story with both teams shooting 50% from the field.
Jamyah Winter would enter off the bench for LMU, however, and sink a three to give the Lady Railsplitters the spark needed to gain the edge going into the start of the second quarter. LMU wouldn't look back, amping up the defensive pressure and finding the bottom of the net to extend the lead out to double digits.Â
The second half would begin similarly, Lincoln Memorial further pushing the lead to the game's largest of 29. Mars Hill wouldn't turn over, though, and would mount a rally to try and shrink the Railsplitter lead.
Alexa Smiddy would lead the charge of answering the effort, allowing the team to regain the comfortable margin to clear the bench and take the victory at the final buzzer.Â
Alexa Smiddy produced 25 points with five assists and four rebounds on the outing.
Lauren Flowers would contribute 17 more to the scoring column.
Jamyah Winter would have arguably one of her best outings in an LMU jersey on the day, adding 17 points of her own.
Geovana Rios (nine points, six rebounds, five assists) and
Chloe Savage (nine points, three assists) were also key in the day's win.
The Lady Railsplitters will return to action on Wednesday, February 14th, where they will travel to Wise, VA for a 5:30 PM matchup with UVA Wise at the David J. Prior Convocation Center.Â
